The Department of Mathematics is Catering to the needs of the Engineering & Technology, Science departments of the S.R.M. Engineering College. In keeping with the tradition of imparting quality education, teaching and research are the main areas of concentration of the department. The Department offers M.Sc. programme in Computational Mathematics and Ph.D. programme in addition to teaching Mathematics to B.E., B.Tech, B.Arch., M.Tech, MBA, MCA and M.Sc. students of various educational streams.

The Department has 22 qualified staff for imparting quality education, the average teaching experience of the staff being 11 years. The team of staff members includes 4 Doctorates, 14 M.Phil. Degree holders, 5 of whom are pursuing Ph.D. programme. The remaining 4 staff members are pursuing M.Phil. Programme. Every year, the members of the department actively participate in various Regional, National and International Conferences and publish papers in several reputed national and international journals. The areas of expertise and interest of the staff include:

  • Fluid Dynamics, Hydrodynamic lubrication

  • Non-linear control system, Optimization theory

  • Numerical Analysis

  • Computational Solid Mechanics

  • Graph Theory

  • Fuzzy Algebra and Approximation Theory

  • Reliability Engineering

Computer Lab

The Department keeps in pace with the advances in technology, by providing its students with separate and state-of-the-art computer facilities for the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. The students gain knowledge of various new areas of research using the internet facilities made available in their labs. The students also get the opportunity of attending seminars and invited lectures addressed by eminent mathematicians, faculty members from IIT, Anna University and other institutes.

The Department organizes a One-Day Maths fest, Engineering Mathematics Festival, EMF every year where students from the engineering colleges in and around Chennai actively participate in various mathematics competitions and exchange their views on new trends in Mathematics and its applications.
