Inception The department was started in 1993 – 94. The National Board of Accreditation has given the department grade B for three years. The department is ranked third in Tamil Nadu State according to the Survey done by SUN TV.
Faculty The Dept. has highly qualified and experienced faculty members. They are encouraged to participate in the National/International seminars and conferences. One of the staff members published a book titled Optical and Opto Electronics.	Microprocessor Lab
Consultancy & Training Department organized PLC Training for FORD Motors, Maraimalai Nagar. The department has excellent skills to offer consultancy service in control and Instrumentation field. National Level Seminar – DOKINCE is organized once in two years. The department has got an ICE association which arranges Industrial visits, Technical Seminars and workshops.
Facilities The department has the following five laboratories Viz. Process Control Lab, Measurement and Transducer Lab, Circuit and Devices Lab, Microprocessor Lab and Computer Lab. The department is equipped with SCADA, CITECT, SIEMENS PLC, PC – Control Lab which are used to design virtual Instrument and Control systems. A Separate department library is maintained for the staff and students.
