Among the greatest
strengths of institutions of higher learning is the
importance given to peer interaction. University
education must ensure free exchange of cultures and
ideas which help broaden one's outlook and attitude
towards fellow human beings and go a long way in
fulfilling the
ideal of one world with multiple cultures.
As most reputed
universities do, every effort, has been made at SRM to
attract students from Tamilnadu and other states of
India and also from South East Asia, Asia Pacific,
Australia, Europe, America and Africa.

Another such
collaboration agreement has been reached between the
SRM Engineering College and Tata Information Systems
Limited on behalf of their principals - IBM of Texas,
USA. Under this agreement, an Integrated Electronics
Competence Centre (IECC) has been set up at the
College Computer Centre. Negotiations are on with
several other universities in Europe, North America,
Canada, USA and Australia for reciprocal exchange that
is, students from abroad coming to attend programmes
at SRM institutions and students from SRM in turn
travelling to these countries to pursue their higher
studies.

Students
in the final semesters of their respective degree
programmes interact with the International Programme
Advisors at SRM and with senior members of the faculty
to plan their post-graduate studies in India and
abroad. SRM has planned to establish an International
Centre at Chennai to serve as an information centre
for persons planning to go abroad for higher studies,
business ventures and industrial collaborations as
well as for cultural programmes in fine arts, music
and dance and for leisure. The Centre will also
provide opportunities for interaction between citizens
of different countries of the world and between
different cultures of each continent.
