SRM
Deemed University views the academic and training
requirements from an international perspective. The
University wants to keep the standard of education on
par with the International standard so that it can
attract foreign students more in number and provide a
platform for exchange of cultures and views, making a
world of multiple cultures.
To
achieve this goal, the University has formed an
International Advisory Board with eminent academics
and technical experts, pooled from different leading
Universities and Industries abroad. At present
professors from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, USA, Carnegie Mellon University, USA,
Stanford University, USA, Kellogg School of Management
of Northwestern University, USA, London School of
Economics, UK, Cambridge University of UK and Nicholas
Copernicus University, Poland and technical experts
from IBM INTEL and World Bank are acting as Members in
the International Advisory Board. The International
Advisory Board helps in curriculum planning and in
arranging collaborative activities like joint
research, twinning programmes of education and
exchange of faculty members and students from the
Universities abroad. The Students of the S.R.M. Deemed
University have ample opportunities to carry out part
of their studies in USA, UK or Australia under
twinning programmes or as visiting students.

| Learning
Resources
The
University aims to develop the students with
adequate skills and knowledge, and helps them
for an all-round development to emerge out as
mature and confident individuals. To achieve
this goal, apart from the regular academic
programmes, the students are provided with
opportunities for a high level independent study
through central campus library, open access
computing facilities and the language center.

The
Library
In the Kattankulathur campus, there is
a central campus library in a four story
building, built exclusively for library use with
an area of about 2000 sq.m. The library has a
general stock section, a reading hall, a
periodical section, an air-conditioned video
center and an audio center. The library has over
45000 volume of books in 17,540 titles. The
library has subscribed for over 140 national
periodicals and 40 international journals.

The
library has on-line library facilities,
networked with DELNET (Developing Library
Networks), MALIBNET (Madras Library Network) IIT
Madras Library, Anna University Library, British
Council Library, United State Information
Service and SERC (Structural Engineering
Research Center). The on-line video facilities
at the library includes education channels to
receive on-line educational programmes such as
EKLAVYA Technology, UGC Gyan Darshan, BBC world,
DD Sports, etc.The Library has an Internet
browsing center open to all students.The Library
operations are fully computerized with bar-coded
library cards.Library is provided with
Reprographic facilities for the benefit of the
students and staff to make copies of the
required material. The library is open all the
days in a week, including
week-end holidays. There is another Central
Library with over 5000 books in the Medical
College and Research Center at Kattankulathur.In
the Ramapuram campus, there are UG and PG
libraries with over 3000 books, 15 Indian and 43
Foreign journals at the School of Dentistry.
Further, the other Paramedical departments have
libraries with over 2000 books and 30 Indian and
Foreign journals. In addition there is another
Library for the faculty of Engineering &
Technology of the University at Ramapuram. Apart
from all these Libraries there is Central Campus
Library attached to the Easwari Engineering
College, in the campus.

Language
Center
A language learning center has been
established in the Kattankulathur Campus of the
University, where wide range of foreign
languages like English, French, German, Russian,
Japanese, etc., and Indian languages like Tamil,
Hindi, etc., are proposed to be taught as day
time and evening courses. This lab is also used
to train the students for TOEFEL and GRE
examinations. One can use the language lab to
learn a new language or to brush up existing
knowledge in a language.

Computing
facilities
S.R.M. Deemed
University provides extensive network of
computers in all the Schools and Departments of
the University including the one in the Library
building. The IT infrastructure in the campus
includes a total of 1043 computers in the range
of Pentium IV and AMD machines, completely
networked with Fibre Optic backbone. The network
is provided with Internet access through a
VSNL-64 kbps leased circuit and a teleglobe USA
- 256 kbps satellite link.

The Application of
computers to support teaching and learning is an
integral part of the SRM Deemed University
degree courses and the students are encouraged
to develop a high level of IT skills relevant to
their academic discipline. All students have
access to the internet and it is proposed to
provide with their own personal email address.
Software applications available on campus range
from word-processing to advanced statistical and
mathematical packages as well as programming
languages and packages. In addition, many
departments have some computing facilities of
their own providing specialists software for
students in those departments.

Curricular
& Co curricular Activities
Every
student of this university is guided to put his /
her sincere effort in his/her chosen discipline to
develop skill and knowledge. Industrial supports
for curricular activities are arranged from
reputed Industries. Students from all branches
visit industries of their discipline and acquire
knowledge. In plant training is also offered to
students from the companies so that their learning
process is strengthened with practical exposure.
The
Structural Engineering and Architectural students
visit the monuments and buildings of special
structures, as part of their practical training. Students
are encouraged to actively take part in technical
seminars, conferences and workshops organized by
this University and by the other Institutions in
the country, for participation, paper
presentation, quiz, etc., thereby enlarging their
awareness of interactive participation and
intellectual involvement. Guest
lectures, seminars and Workshops are conducted on
a variety of subjects with experts in different
fields.

Extra
Curricular Activities
Students
are provided all facilities to participate actively in
several extra-curricular activities.Vast playgrounds
and courts are provided for sports as well as games
such as basket ball, volleyball and tennis, among
others.
Students
are encouraged to form cultural associations with
focus on music, elocution, debate, poetry, literature
and so on.
