Local Public Transport  

The University is well-served by local public transport including a suburb railway station (Potheri station) exclusively for the students of the University at Kattankulathur campus. The University also runs over 25 buses for the mobility of the University students from different parts of the City and Suburb. In addition, there are over 20 buses in operation for the students of the other Institutions of S.R.M. Group situated near Kattankulathur campus. For the benefit of the students at Ramapuram campus (including Easwari Engineering College) over 30 buses are in operation. In Modinagar Campus Bus facilities are available for the Delhi based students to commute from Delhi to Modinagar.


Administration

The authority of the S.R.M. Deemed University vests with the Chancellor and the Chairman of the S.R.M. Group, Thiru. T.R. Pachamuthu, the Pro-Chancellor, Thiru. P. Ravi, the Vice-Chancellor, Thiru. P. Sathyanarayanan and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dr. R. Shivakumar. The University is administered by the Vice-Chancellor, ably supported by, the campus Director, the Director (Research and Virtual Education), the Registrar, the Controller of Examinations, Deans of Faculties and the Heads of the Departments. The Board of Management chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and represented by the Management nominees, Deans of Faculties, Nominees from UGC and the Govt. of India, representatives from the Teachers and the Sponsoring Society helps in decision making, and framing policies and guidelines for the effective functioning of the University. A Finance Committee chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and represented by the Management, and the nominees from the UGC and the Govt. of India advises on the financial planning of the University. A Planning and Monitoring Board chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and represented by the Academic and Administrative Heads of the University, Experts from outside and a Nominee from the UGC helps in planning the academic and the administrative requirements of the University and in monitoring the execution of the planned activities. An Advisory Committee chaired by Prof. Ashok K. Gupta, Member UGC and represented by the Chancellor of S.R.M. Deemed University, Senior Faculty Members of the Institute and a UGC Nominee provides necessary advice in the academic and administrative activities of the University. An International Advisory Board constituted with the experts from the Universities and Industries from USA, UK, Japan and other Countries provides necessary advice in curriculum planning and collaborative activities such as joint research, student/staff exchange programme, etc., with the reputed Universities abroad. An Academic Council chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and represented by the University administration, Deans of Faculties, Chairmen of the Boards of Studies, Heads of departments and experts invited from the leading Industries and Universities approves the curriculum and syllabi formulated and presented by the various Boards of studies.


Academia

The S.R.M. Institute of Science and Technology offers academic programmes at Under - Graduate, Post-Graduate and Ph.D. Research levels in the Arts, Science, Engineering, Technology, Medical and Health Sciences under the Faculty of Science and Humanities, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. Nearly 9750 students are studying in UG, PG, and Ph.D. programmes in different disciplines of the various Faculties of the University. The University has highly qualified and experienced Faculty members, many of them with international reputation, serving at different levels as Professors, Asst. Professors / Readers, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers. The number of teaching staff in all the Faculties at the University is nearly 850, supported by over 400 non-teaching technical and administrative staff. 

The details of the academic programmes offered in different disciplines are listed in a subsequent section. The departments and schools of the various Faculties are well equipped with latest and modern laboratory facilities for experimentation. The details of the various departments of different faculties are given in the later chapters.


Learning and Teaching  

The Faculties of the S.R.M. Deemed University has a long-standing recognition for its quality of teaching. The University ensures that students receive excellent education through lectures, seminars, classes and supervisions. Small groups of students are counselled and guided by a Faculty member of the respective department, as student counsellor or class advisor, for their effective learning.

The quality of teaching in lectures is monitored by Faculties and Departments, who arrange feedback of courses and organize appropriate student representation of relevant bodies such as class committees or teaching committees. The Quality Assurance mechanism are revealed by an Education Committee which is also responsible for a regular cycle of Faculty and Departmental reviews. The University is committed to maintain high standards of learning and teaching.

External Quality Assurance : Between 1998 and 2002, the External Quality Assurance was conducted by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology through a series of reviews in the departments of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation and Control, Chemical, Computer Science and Engineering, Business Administration and Architecture. Out of the 12 programmes reviewed by NBA, 5 programmes achieved the top score of ‘A’ grades and 7 programmes achieved ‘B’ grades. The University will continue to subject its programmes offered under different Faculties to the National and International Accreditation Agencies, responsible for accrediting programmes under Arts, Science, Engineering, Medical and Health Sciences, periodically at regular intervals for ensuring quality of education on par with International standards.
