The Birth of the University

Considering the Excellent infrastructural facilities and the high standard of education offered consistantly at the S.R.M. Dental College and at the S.R.M. Engineering College, these two leading institutions of the S.R.M. Group were declared as Deemed to be University under the ambit of S.R.M. Institute of Science and Technology by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India, New Delhi and the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, during the year 2002-03 and 2003-04 respectively. Thus, the S.R.M. Deemed University started functioning initially with the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences from 2002-03. The Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the Faculty of Science and Humanities were then added from the academic year 2003-04, after the S.R.M. Engineering College was brought under the ambit of the S.R.M. Deemed University. During 2004-05 the SRM College of Pharmacy, the SRM College of Nursing, the SRM College of Physiotherapy and the SRM College of Occupational Therapy of the Group were brought under the ambit of SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Deemed University. Same time the SRM Institute of Management and Technology, Delhi was also brought under the ambit of the SRM Deemed University.


The Campus

The University is situated in three different serene and green landscaped campuses, one at Kattankulathur in Kancheepuram District, a suburb of Chennai City on the G.S.T. Road (Chennai – Trichy National Highway, NH 45), 20 km from Chennai Airport, the second at Ramapuram, within the Corporation of Chennai City, adjacent to the link Road that leads to the Chennai – Bangalore National Highway NH4 and third in Modinagar, Delhi.

The Kattankulathur Campus houses all the three Faculties including of Engineering and Technology (erstwhile S.R.M. Engineering College), the faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (Medical College and Research Center), the College of Pharmacy and the
Faculty of Science & Humanities. This campus has a network of 30 blocks for academic and administrative activities with a built up area of over 1,50,000 sq.m. Adjacent to the University
complex, there are other institutes, namely,  

Valliammai Engineering College, Valliammai Polytechnic, S.R.M. Polytechnic and S.R.M. Arts and Science College of the S.R.M. Group. This campus also has a 3 star Hotel "Royal Southern" and a General Hospital attached to the Medical College. The total spread of this campus is about 200 acres of land.

The Ramapuram Campus houses the College of Dentistry, College of Nursing, College of Physiotherapy, College of Occupational therapy and a few disciplines of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the Deemed University in 5 Blocks with a built-in area of over 32,500 sq.m. This campus also houses another Institute, Easwari Engineering College of the S.R.M. Group. Further, a multi-speciality Hospital and a Community Health Center are also available in this campus. The total spread of this campus is about 20 acres of land.

The Delhi Campus is situated in Modinagar, near Delhi, in a landscape of 9.5 acres housing the Institute of Management and Technology of the Deemed University. The Institute in this Campus has excellent infrastructure facilities including well furnished classrooms, laboratories, computer centers with latest equipments, a good library, hostel facilities and play grounds. The campuses of the University are provided with facilities like Post office, Banking, Playgrounds, Cafe & Restaurants, Internet Browsing Centers, etc., for a comfortable living and learning.


Accommodation  

The University offers campus accommodation to the needy male and female students in all the campuses. The Hostel facilities at Kattankulathur Campus has a capacity of accommodati
-ng over 2500 students (500 girls & 2000 boys). The facilities also include an International students hostel with air-conditioned rooms and other facilities to meet the requirements of the International students with a capacity for 200 students (100 girls & 100 boys) to stay. The Hostel facilities at Ramapuram Campus can accommodate about 1250 students (1000 girls & 250 boys). All campus accommodation has residence tutors and a warden who are responsible for the welfare of student residents and for ensuring that everything runs smoothly. The Modinagar Campus in Delhi has an excellent living environment with Hostel facilities seperately for girls and boys to house more than 150 students.
