Objectives

Department of Chemistry is one of the primary science departments of SRM Institute of Science and Technology. The department comprises of a goal oriented group of highly qualified, experienced and dynamic faculty members.

The laboratories are equipped with modern analytical instruments in sufficient quantity to enable the students to get trained individually. The expertise of the experienced faculty are utilized to expose the students to various industrial methods of analysis. The laboratories have been designed in such a way that the needs of the post-graduate and doctoral candidates are fulfilled. Introducing the latest techniques in chemistry laboratories is a continuous process.

The facilities available in the laboratories include UV-visible spectrophotometer, Bomb calorimeter, High Temperature programmable-Furnace, High pressure reactor and polarimeter.

U.G. and P.G. programmes

The department offers courses on Chemistry. Applied Chemistry, Food Science and Nutrition and Material Technology in the undergraduate level.

The department is also offering M.Sc. degree programme in chemistry with the following specializations.

  1. Polymer Chemistry

  2. Industrial Chemistry

  3. Environmental Chemistry

The M.Sc., programme has been designed based on global needs and national demands in terms of employment and research. The programme includes more number of elective courses which are industrially important besides the advanced core courses. The students are sent to various R&D organizations across the country where they need to solve research problems experimentally and incorporate them in their dissertation.
